Thank you for having me here today for my Bewitching Book Tour, I’ll be on tour until June 4th. I’m doing a different topic each day. Today is How I came up with the idea for Disappear. Now I have to figure out how not to give away something important to the story.

I don’t know about other authors, but I come up with ideas just randomly. I don’t search for topics and find something and think ‘now if I wrote about this’ and then I take that ‘this’ and expand on it. I’ve actually wanted to write a ghost story because I love to ghost hunt, but that’s another story. Anyway, I’ve tried to come up with something and it’s just not there.

But I’ll be on my way to work and hear a song and an idea for a story will plant a seed. And then it grows from there. That’s how I came up with Watching Jenny. An Alanis Morrissette song came on and the next thing I knew an idea about someone stalking a rock singer formed.

I love to write and read suspense, and the best ones are those I can’t figure out who the bad guy is. Or I need to keep turning pages to see if he/she gets away from the bad guy. So of course I try to write so the reader has to keep turning those pages.

With Disappear, my husband and I were watching a documentary and a small kernel of an idea popped into my head. I thought, I could have a character have to fake his/her suicide to survive. Then, more of the idea blossomed. I usually have anywhere from a 200 word blurb idea to a page of an idea to start with. Then I make a list of characters and as I write I add to the characters, their descriptions, their likes and dislikes, how they’re linked within the story. I usually have the name before I start writing also, that doesn’t mean it stays the same. Then I write as if I’m reading it. I don’t know who the bad guys are. Basically I write by the seat of my pants …

Disappear originally was named The Bridge, then I changed it to Nowhere to Hide. As the story developed and all the Beckett’s joined in, I realized this would be the first book of my first series.

Then I saw another book with the same title, so I went to Amazon and did a search. Low and behold there were several with that name. I began to search for another one. By then the other two books had been written. I loved the title of the 2nd book, Innocent, and decided to try doing all three with one-word titles. Disappear, Innocent and Quiet.

And that’s how it all began. Tomorrow I’ll be at Book Nerd Revealed and I will talk about my research in New York for the Beckett’s.

Bewitching Tours will be doing something called the Rafflecopter. It keeps track of everyone who follows me on Twitter or ‘like’s my Facebook page, follows my blog, or anyone who subscribes to my newsletter will all have entries for the drawing that will take place at the end of the tour on June 4th. There will be four winners and they will have their choice of a download or print book of any of my books.

Thank you for having me here today. I hope to see some of you tomorrow, and throughout the rest of the month!

Blurb for Disappear:
After two years undercover as an FBI agent to infiltrate a crime organization and discover the identity of a hit man, Tyler Beckett’s cover is blown. Tyler’s new assignment is to protect the only witness who can identify the mysterious killer. If only he didn’t find her so attractive. Each day it becomes harder to keep his objective, especially since he knows the interest is mutual.

Keira Cavanaugh is the only witness to a hit ordered by a crime boss. The safe house is compromised and the same hit man shoots Tyler. Fearing Tyler is dead, Keira plans revenge on the crime organization. She must fake her own suicide in order to survive.

When Tyler discovers what Keira plans, he realizes he must stop her before he loses her for good.
