My Review:

Nicci Beauvoir has grown up in the glitzy world of being a debutante and doesn't really like it.  She wants to be a nurse and is enjoying completing her courses.  Her dad wants her to take over the family's scrape metal business but she's not interested.

One evening during a lawn party she meets an interesting individual David Alexander and struggling artist under the influence of his benefactor Sammy.  He swepts her off her feet by taking her fishing, having coffee at a coffee shop and then proceeds to show her he's a great lover.  While she is sleeping he paints her image on his canvas board.

Also during this time Sammy is out to get control of Nicci's father's business and David is somehow involved in this scheme.  Nicci finds out and is devastated by the betrayal.  She turns to Dr. Michael Fagles a man who only wants to find a wife he can control.  She allows him to direct her and her passion for life is gone ever since David's betrayal.

Will Nicci ever be passionate about life again or even forgive David - you will have to read to find out!

This is a beautifully written book with intrigue around every corner, betrayals, romance in the world of lavish backgrounds.

Author Tributes

I wanted to post a tribute to these three great writers that we have lost within the last two years:

Mystery Thriller/Romantic Suspense:

Robert B. Parker (September 17, 1932 – January 18, 2010) - 77 years old and died from a heart attack.

Robert B. Parker's résumé is familiar to most of his readers. Born and raised in Massachusetts, graduated from Colby College in Maine, married Joan Hall, had two sons, earned his Ph.D. at Boston University, taught at Northeastern University, and wrote nearly seventy books.

There are other factoids about him that are less well known. Bob's talent for rhythm was first put to work when the U.S. Army sent him to Korea as a Morse code radio operator. He always wanted to be a writer, but he needed a steady income to support his young wife and, later, his sons. Bob was hired as a technical writer first for Raytheon and then for Curtiss-Wright, which soon laid him off. He next worked as editor of a magazine for Prudential insurance agents and freelanced as a partner in Parker/Farman, the "world's smallest advertising agency."

Unable to take any more of corporate America, and with no interest in advertising, Bob returned to school. The plan was to earn a doctorate, get a job teaching, and have the time to start writing seriously. While going to school, he held down as many as five college teaching jobs at once, often took care of his sons, and did odd jobs for a consulting company. Fortunately for the family, Joan had a job in education that paid well.

The plan worked, and as a teacher at Northeastern University, Bob found the time to write. He was one of four authors of an anthology textbook, The Personal Response to Literature, published in 1971. Two years later, the first Spenser novel, The Godwulf Manuscript, appeared.

Bob was renowned for his Spenser novels, featuring the wise-cracking, street-smart Boston private-eye, which earned him a devoted following and reams of critical acclaim. He also launched two other bestselling series featuring, respectively, Massachusetts police chief Jesse Stone and Boston private detective Sunny Randall. In addition, he authored four Westerns. Bob's bestselling Western novel Appaloosa was made into a major motion picture by New Line, starred Ed Harris and Viggo Mortensen, and was a box office hit in 2008. Long acknowledged as the dean of American crime fiction, he was named Grand Master of the Edgar Awards in 2002 by the Mystery Writers of America, an honor shared with earlier masters such as Alfred Hitchcock and Ellery Queen.

Beverly Barton AKA: Beverly Marie Inman Beaver (December 23, 1946 - April 21, 2011) - She died of heart failure.

For sixty-four years she blessed the world with her vibrant personality, passion for life, and a love for her family that was unsurpassed. Her great beauty both inside and out was unquestionable. Her heart was always open and full of love. She had a witty sense of humor and mind that thirsted for knowledge. She loved old movies, poetry, good food, great books, and an eclectic array of music. Her career as a New York Times bestselling author gave her many adoring fans the world over who supported and helped make her dream career possible. She was the epitome of a true Southern lady who was loved and admired by all who knew her.

Beverly was a sixth generation Alabamian who wrote mainstream romantic suspense for Kensington. She sold her first book in 1989 and it was released as a July 1990 Silhouette Desire. YANKEE LOVER was set in Beverly’s hometown of Tuscumbia, Alabama, during the annual Helen Keller Festival. She wrote over seventy books for Silhouette and Kensington. Her first mainstream romantic suspense, AFTER DARK, was released in December 2000 under the Zebra imprint for Kensington.

Paranormal:

L.A. Banks (December 11, 1959 – August 2, 2011)

Leslie Esdaile Banks: New York Times and USA Today Best-selling author, L.A. Banks has penned over 40 novels and 12 novellas in a wide range of genres and is the recipient of the 2009 Romantic Times Booklover's Convention Career Achievement Award for Paranormal Fiction and the 2008 Essence Magazine Storyteller of the Year Award, as well as the 2008 Best 50 Women in Business Award for the State of Pennsylvania. Recently she was featured as a speaker on the HBO Special on Vampire Literature and Legends as a prelude to the True Blood premier.

A native of Philadelphia, Banks is a graduate of The University of Pennsylvania Wharton undergraduate program, and alumnae of Temple University's Master of Fine Arts in filmmaking program. She writes under the pseudonyms; L.A. Banks, Leslie Esdaile, Leslie E. Banks, Leslie Banks, and Leslie Esdaile Banks. She has won several business as well as literary awards, and writes in genres as diverse as romance, women's fiction, crime suspense, and paranormal. She has contributed to magazines, newspaper columns, and has written commercial fiction for a variety of major publishers: St. Martin's Press, Simon and Schuster, Harlequin, Kensington Publishing, BET/Arabesque, Dark Horse Press, Genesis Press, Parker Publishing, Harper, and Tor. Her non-fiction work includes the riveting and motivational story of Bank's life journey in her contribution to the Chicken Soup for the African American Soul anthology.

Banks' writing career took a new twist when she won the coveted contract with Paramount/Showtime in collaboration with Simon & Schuster/Pocketbooks to write a book series for the popular cable network television series, Soul Food. Banks was also contracted to write the Universal Studios/Dark Horse Press novelization of the movie, Scarface, which takes a look at the main character Tony Montana's life two years before he emigrated from Cuba to American in 1978. In addition, Banks penned a four-book crime thriller for Kensington/Dafina, beginning with Betrayal of the Trust, under her alternate pseudonym, Leslie Esdaile Banks. From there, Banks transitioned into another hot genre—the world of paranormal fiction, where she has penned a 12 book Vampire Huntress Legend series under the pseudonym, L.A. Banks, for St. Martin's Press, as well as a hot new werewolf series, Crimson Moon Novels (a six book series.) Banks has also moved into ebooks with Red Rose Publishing, graphic novels, comics, manga and even a new YA, entitled, Shadow Walker, for her thriving Vampire Huntress Legends series, as well as a young adult paranormal series that is under development.

Sadly, Leslie passed away August 2, 2011 after a short but courageous battle with cancer.

Kate @ Ex Libris

I am a perpetually tired reader, mom of two, ex-music teacher, and HR worker bee. I work for a NASA contractor in Houston, but I would rather live somewhere that doesn’t fry in the summer or get hit by hurricanes in the fall. My first literary crush was Gilbert from Anne of Green Gables and I add to that list every day.

My book blog is only a few months old and I love to talk about books with anyone who will listen.  I read all types of fiction, but have recently discovered the wide world of YA.  I am a Hunger Games fangirl who loves Jane Austen or a good Dr. Who episode. (Aren’t they ALL good??)  Right now I am reading fathermothergod by Lucia Greenhouse and Birthmarked by Caragh O’Brien.

I originally started blogging to keep track of all the books I read and what I thought of them. It was helpful when my reader friends would ask me because I could just refer them to the blog. I'm an English teacher who reads ALL the time. I try to read books that my students (6th graders) are reading. Makes trips to the media center much easier when I can recommend books. I'm also a mom, wife, and now student again. I also like read the books most people would be embarrassed to admit they have read like The Duggars, Sarah Palin, and now Bristol Palin's book. I don't care. Makes read much more interesting.

Question of the Week: The New Year is here -- and everyone wants to know your New Years Blogging Resolution! What are you going to try to revise, revamp and redo for 2012 on your blog?

My resolutions this year are:

1. Post more reviews 3 - 4 times a week.

2. Reply to comments left on my blog and to comment more regularly on my follower's blog.

3. Really thinking of getting a new blog look - what do you think?

4. More Guest Posts and Giveaways

5. Participate in more Reading Challenges

My Review:

Nicci believes she sees a man that looks just like her beloved David Alexander outside of the St. Louis Cathedral.  She decides to go on a hunt for the truth behind David's murder.  She teams up with Simon La Roy David's old boss to get the information she needs.  She doesn't tell Dallas August her fiance about working with Simon.  The more she gets involved in Simon's deadly game Dallas discovers her secret and is determined to protect/save her.  In an emotional climax revengeful Simon forces Nicci to choose between her life and all she has learned.

Wow this book is very intense and emotionally captivating.  Nicci isn't a damsel in distress she's the one actually taking on the danger head on.  I didn't like how she was leading Dallas on and I thought she was quite angry in this book.

Very fast paced with an intriguing storyline and very flesh out characters.

Contemp Review: Slow Ride (Fast Track) [Paperback]

I've finished "Slow Ride" the 5th book in her Fast Track series by Erin McCarthy.

As a tribute to her late journalist father, Tuesday Jones is planning a career benefit, auctioning off racing memorabilia and meet - and - greets with drivers. Ex-racing star Diesel Lange has had his own brush with death, and is determined not to waste another minute of his life - especially when he meets Tuesday. He wants nothing more than to shift their romance into high gear, but he knows she's still grieving. Can Diesel do the one thing he could never do on the track and take it slow?

My Review:

Tuesday Jones knows all about the racing track world.  Her dad was a very respectful racing track journalist and she has her own Tuesday Talladega racing gossip blog.  She is devastated when her dad dies from cancer six months after being diagnosed and turns to drinking to numb her pain.  At her father's funeral ex-driver Daniel Diesel Lange comforts and sympathizes with her.  Four weeks later she bumps into him again at her best friend's wedding.

Two years ago Diesel was a top racing car driver but that all came to a crashing halt when his car crashed into a wall and he almost died.  He now lives a normal life and keeping to himself.  He finds it hard to meet women until he meets Tuesday.

The chemistry between them is extremely hot and the love scenes are steamy and sexy.  I didn't really like Tuesday because most of the time she is drunk and says and does stuff she normally wouldn't do if she were sane.  She is quite rude and brass.

Diesel is a sexy alpha male but I wish he got Tuesday some help with her drinking.

My Review:

Hannah has been mourning Jacob for two years.  She feels guilty for being attracted to his twin brother Levi.  Levi has loved Hannah since the day he first saw her and would do anything to protect the women he loves.

A stranger arrives in town named Akiva and he has designs on Hannah but Levi is determined not to lose Hannah to the same darkness that took his brother Jacob.

This book was hauntingly captivating and truly scary at times.  I thought Hannah was very vulnerable and still grieving that she didn't suspect that Akiva is actually Jacob and not human.

Now she’s alone on New Year’s Eve, wearing flannel pajamas and wielding a Glock 22 as she zeroes in on the unmistakable source of the sound: Uncle Nicco’s private office. Jason Davis steals things for a living, so unexpected developments are a natural part of the job. Getting caught red-handed by a hot, pigtail-sporting police officer in what is supposed to be a gangster’s deserted house is just one more twist in the game. Kind of like finding incriminating photos in Nicco Marino’s safe, only to discover the cop — and the security cameras — have gotten a real good look at his face. Unfortunately for Mick, she also got a good look at the damned pictures. Her “uncle” might love her like family, but if he knows she’s seen evidence that implicates him in the murder of a city councilman, she doesn’t like her chances. Which is why she’s having a hard time reconciling her professional instincts with what she is rapidly concluding is an inescapable fact: She’s about to help a criminal get away with a suitcase full of stolen money. And she’s going with him. Mick and Jason’s race for their lives hurtles them through the dangerous Michigan wilderness on speedboat and snowmobile. As their adventure heats up and their enemies close in, Mick is torn between her duty to the force and the combustible passion engulfing her and her unlikely partner in crime. She’ll have to turn Jason in sooner or later . . . if they survive.  But will they ever get a second chance at love?

You follow them, they follow you. Win. Win. Just make sure to follow back if someone follows you!

Now to make this FF interesting we do a FEATURE blogger. Ce-Ce`s Garden of Reviews

Im sixteen years old and already a writer and blogger. Love curling up with a book and some coa-coa, and is one hundred percent in love with books. I try my hardest to get books for my bookshelf, which has less than one row left.

I love making new friends and finding new and cool things to learn on the internet. Learning all that blogger has to offer is what Im dealing with now. Now, if only I could figure out why I can't join Google+ ….

From the Shadows I Review

Hi everyone! My name's Charmaine but everyone calls me Char. I'm a 20 year old woman/girl... either or, I never know which to put. I live in the UK and I absolutely love to read books. I started blogging because I always have an opinion on what I'm reading and I guess that I wanted to share my opinions with the world. When I'm not reading or blogging I'm a full time carer for my mum. Sometimes I manage to find some spare time to crochet or write but it's not always a guarantee.

I love to read just about everything but the majority of the time I'll be reading YA. My favourite books are Stolen by Lucy Christopher, Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher, Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys, If I Stay by Gayle Forman and Before I Die by Jenny Downham.

Question of the Week: If you had to spend eternity inside the pages of a book which book would you choose and why?

I would be happy to spend eternity in "Dance With the Devil" by Sherrilyn Kenyon because I would love to interact with Zarek, Sasha and the whole Dark-Hunter World.

I would also love to spend eternity in "Lover Awakened" by J.R. Ward because I would love to interact with Zsadist and the whole Black Dagger Brotherhood World.

ARC Review: Hot Zone (Elite Force: That Others May Live) [Mass Market Paperback]

I've finished "Hot Zone" the 2nd book in her Elite Force series by Catherine Mann.

Product Description

HE'LL TAKE ANY MISSION, THE RISKIER THE BETTER ...

The haunted eyes of pararescueman Hugh Franco should have been her first clue that deep pain roiled beneath the surface. But if Amelia couldn't see the damage, how could she be expected to know he'd break her heart?

SHE'LL PROVE TO BE HIS BIGGEST RISK YET...

Amelia Bailey's not the kind of girl who usually needs rescuing ... but there are anything but usual circumstances.

About the Author

ISBN-10: 1402244983
ISBN-13: 978-1402244988

My Review:

Amelia is a lawyer is helping her brother and sister-in-law with their new adopted son Joshua in the Bahamas.  An earthquake occurs and she is trapped underground with her new nephew Joshua for two days.  Hugh finds them and then feels obligated to make sure they are safe.  Amelia is dealing with an awful divorce and a painful relationship with her dad which makes her wary about having relationships.

Hugh lost his wife and four year old daughter in a plane crash five years ago.  To numb the pain he has thrown himself into work as a Pararescue Jumper.  Being around Joshua makes him very uncomfortable because it reminds him what he has lost and makes him deal with the feelings he hasn't wanted to think about for so long.

Amelia's brother Dr Aiden Bailey and his wife Lisabeth is also his nurse. Both have worked for Doctors without Borders and now with Operation Smile. They have come to the Bahamas to adopt Joshua when the earthquake hit and separated them from Amelia and Joshua. Aiden's father was pedophile which is the reason why he never wanted any children but Lisabeth has convinced him to adopt.

Major Liam McCabe is Hugh's boss and he has had three wives and 3 divorces.  He has a reputation of falling very fast for a women which happens when he meets Urban Search and Rescue member Rachel Flores.  Rachel has just come out of a bad relationship and isn't looking for another one.

This book has a steamy romance with a lot of action especially the one with the baby snatching plotline.  The hero was super sexy with a kick ass heroine.

ARC Review: Wild Thing [Mass Market Paperback]

I've finished "Wild Thing" by Robin Kaye.

Product Description

White-water rafting guide Hunter Kincaid is psyched to lead a group of fashion models into the Idaho wilderness for a photoshoot. But it's Toni, the feisty manager of Action Models, who creates enough sparks to start a forest fire...

When rugged outdoorsman meets the original city girl, worlds will definitely collide in Robin Kaye's fresh new series.

About the Author

Award-winning author Robin Kaye grew up in the shadow of the Brooklyn Bridge next-door to her Sicilian grandparents. Living with an extended family that's a cross between Gilligan's Island and The Sopranos explains both her comedic timing and the cast of quirky characters in her books. She currently resides with her husband and three teenage children in Mount Airy, Maryland.

My Review:

When Toni Russo was six years old she was left in the wilderness for three days so now she is afraid of doing anything outdoors.  Her boss can't make it Toni is left to manage the photo shoot and she thinks she could handle it if only she could step out of her cabin and not have a panic attack.

Guide Hunter Kincaid plans to distract her and when he notices a book on her dresser called "How to Get a Man to Marry You" he asks his sister to get him a copy so he could become Toni's ideal man.

During their trek through the wildness both fall in love and have a thrilling adventure with some hot and hilarious models.

I love the dynamics between the Kincaid siblings and the scenes between his brother's Fisher and Trapper and the male model.

My Review:

The Fore-Demon Council assigns Paladin Rafael DeLeon to be Matthias Ambrose handler.  Rafael assigns Matthias the job of making sure that his fiance Lucy's best friend Serah SanGermano stays alive.

Matthias wants nothing to do with Serah because he knows her from before.  He doesn't want to remember her haunting blue eyes, her sexy smile or her powers.  She's gotten under his skin but finally relents and agrees to protect Serah.  In the past he kidnapped and erased her memories.

Serah is a great cook and her catering business is in high demand.  She is preparing for her stint on American Chef and refuses to believe the chaos around her is directed at her but just a case of bad luck.

During their adventure they fall in love and when Serah wants to know his secrets he restores her memory.  Then she doesn't want anything to do with him since she believes he's a bully.

I really enjoyed the cigar smoking and talking cat and how he protects Serah.

I loved the sarcastic remarks the characters banter back and forth between each other.  It was hilarious and refreshing.
