The Strangely Beautiful Tale of Miss Percy Parker (Mass Market Paperback)

I've just finished reading "The Strangely Beautiful Tale of Miss Percy Parker" the 1st book in her Percy Parker series by  Leanna Renee Hieber.

From Publishers Weekly

Six young men and women are called to protect the living world from the dead in Hieber's Gothic romance debut. Mysterious powers give Alexi and his peers the mission of keeping the restless dead in line and seeking a prophesied seventh guardian. Miss Percy Parker, an albino orphan with a talent for languages, fills none of their expectations, but Alexi is drawn to her all the same. Hieber draws Victorian London as beautiful and grim, with depictions of Jack the Ripper as a nightmarish many-headed hound alongside charming descriptions of the Athens Academy, Percy's boarding school, and Greek mythology that smartly draws together various elements of the story. The supporting characters are nuanced and appealing but given short shrift by the narrow focus on Percy and Alexi, though future sequels may give them more room to play. Hieber's debut shows great potential, and readers will want to revisit her intriguing world.

My Review:

I highly recommend reading this book if you like dark and gothic paranormals.

Alexi reminds me of Zarek and Zsadist in a way as in attitude and the way they think of love, etc.

And, to top it off, a hunk of a shape-shifting griffin has invited me to Greece to meet his family.

But it's not all sun, sand, and ouzo. Someone has created a dark-magic version of me with my powers and my knowledge--and it wants to kill me and everyone I know. Of course, this evil twin doesn't have Grandma's gang of biker witches, a talking Jack Russell terrier, or an eccentric necromancer on its side. In the ultimate showdown for survival, may the best demon slayer win.

The Christmas Clock (Hardcover)

I've just finished reading "The Christmas Clock " by Kat Martin.

Product Description

Sylvia Winters just found a job and an apartment in her hometown of Dreyerville, Michigan, but she is hesitant to return. Eight years ago, she jilted her fiancé, Joe Dixon, telling him that she was moving to Chicago because small-town living was not for her. But she was lying. Syl was headed to Chicago to be treated for cervical cancer. Sadly, Joe never knew the real reason she left him. Confused and distraught, he turned to drinking to heal the pain, until he accidentally killed a man and served years in jail. Now Syl and Joe are both back in town, but it will take a miracle to bring them back into each other’s arms.

Also in town is Lottie Sparks and her grandson, Teddy. Ever since Lottie’s daughter was killed in a drunk-driving accident, Lottie’s been in charge of Teddy. He appreciates her love more than she knows, so much so that the industrious eight-year-old hits up Joe’s auto body shop, so he can save enough money by Christmas to buy his grandmother a Victorian clock she adores—one that vividly reminds her of her childhood, even as the rest of her memories are slipping away with the onset of advanced Alzheimer’s.

As spring turns to summer and summer to fall, matters in the Sparks’ household take a turn for the worse. And with winter approaching, will a little hope and a big dose of Christmas magic be enough to make everything all right again?

Ecstasy Unveiled (The Demonica Series)

I've just finished reading "Ecstasy Unveiled" the 4th book in her Demonica series by Larissa Ione.

Product Description

A DEMON ENSLAVED

Lore is a Seminus half-breed demon who has been forced to act as his dark master's assassin. Now to earn his freedom and save his sister's life, he must complete one last kill. Powerful and ruthless, he'll stop at nothing to carry out this deadly mission.

AN ANGEL TEMPTED

Idess is an earthbound angel with a wild side, sworn to protect the human Lore is targeting. She's determined to thwart her wickedly handsome adversary by any means necessary-even if that means risking her vow of eternal chastity. But what begins as a simple seduction soon turns into a passion that leaves both angel and demon craving complete surrender.

Torn between duty and desire, Lore and Idess must join forces as they battle their attraction for each other. Because an enemy from the past is rising again-one hellbent on vengeance and unthinkable destruction.

My Review:

Idess was a great match for Lore because she was a kick ass heroine who could really defend for herself.  She didn't take any crap from anyone and could dish it out too!

Lore was also a great character because he didn't really want to kill Kynan but only because he was forced to try to kill him (he loves his family).

The killers were quite disgusting and vile and I'm glad they got their comuptance!

For more information about the book, please visit:

http://jasaare.com/

Thanks so much Goddessfish.com for connecting us on this blog tour!

Please take it away, J.A.!

1. What is your book about?

Dead, Undead, or Somewhere in Between is an urban fantasy, told through the voice of a bartender who works in a strip club and happens to see the spirits of the deceased. Unfortunately, she can also the “twice-dead”, vampires who have passed over. When her secret comes out, she gets involved with the very creepy crawlies she fears.

You get a bit of everything with Dead, including suspense, mystery, and romance.

2. How did you first become interested in writing?

I remember reading my first horror story, Stephen King’s Firestarter, when I was thirteen. Of course, I screwed with that mentality by following it up with Kathleen Woodiwiss’s The Flame and the Flower. Ever since then, I’ve always wanted to write both. It wasn’t until I was introduced to Laurell K. Hamilton and Anita Blake that I realized you can have your cake and eat it too. I was too frightened to branch out and attempt it for myself (and would never dare compare myself to either) but their work is my brand of heroine, and I wanted to attempt to create something similar.

I wrote off and on in high-school, mainly poetry and lyrics for my cousin’s band. The stories I attempted to construct were panned very early on, and never saw the light of day. It wasn’t until I had the idea for Crimson Moon (a paranormal romance available at The Wild Rose Press on June 25th) that I finally sat down, started writing, and didn’t stop until I was finished.

3. Who is your inspiration?

I’m going to sound so sappy for saying this, but it’s my eldest son. When he was two, we started to notice he acted different from our oldest child (our daughter). He was withdrawn, quiet, and preferred to be left alone all the time. What we assumed was a hearing impairment (he stopped responding to noises all together) turned out to be Autism.

Watching him go from a vocabulary of 8-10 words at the age of four, forced to use visual prompts to communicate, to full sentences without verbal cues, has been the most inspiring things I’ve ever witnessed. I affectionately refer to him as my wonder boy, because he is. He’s special in ways no one else but his father and I can see, and it’s enough to keep things in perspective. Success is measured in various ways – his being the one I aspire to.

4. Do you write on a schedule?

I used to…until my children got tired of Mommy “working all the time”. Now, I write at night when I can, or on the weekends when time permits. I made a promise to return to a schedule when I get the edits completed on upcoming projects and focus on wrapping up the numerous WIP’s that are just begging to be resolved.

To keep sharp, I write daily. That doesn’t necessarily mean I write stories, but I’ll focus on a blog entry, a review for a movie or story I’ve enjoyed, or perhaps I’ll write a stanza of poetry.

5. Do you listen to music when you write? If so, what type of music do you listen to and why?

I always listen to music. In fact, I have Buddy Holly serenading me right now (just started playing on random on itunes). The music I listen to varies according to what I’m writing or doing at the time. When I’m writing something dark and gritty, I’ll turn to Nine Inch Nails, My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult, Faustrecht, or KMFDM. If I need to edit, compose, or hit those emotional places, I’ll turn on some M83, E.S. Postumus, Enya, Sarah Brightman, or one of the numerous movie scores I keep handy just in case.

To say my musical tastes vary is putting it mildly. My husband jokes that I’m the only person you’ll meet who’ll have The Grateful Dead and Panthera side by side of a CD shelf.

6. Are you an avid reader?

Very much so. The one thing I always tell people who ask about writing better is this – read better. What I mean by that is to read outside of what you like. Consider it self-imposed homework. The only way you can learn is to stretch, and the only way you can stretch is to taste different flavors.

A good example – I’m not big on chick lit. It’s just not my thing. But I’ve forced myself to open up the TBR list, make a few selections, and put time on the calendar to give them a go. If you remain steadfast to one kind of writing – be it style or genre – it’s impossible to branch out and expand your own voice when you take a seat at the PC or laptop and get to work.

Thanks for having me by!! I really appreciate it!

Jaime

Divine Misdemeanors: A Novel (Meredith Gentry, Book 8)

I've just finished reading "Divine Misdemeanors:  A Novel" the 8th book in her Merry Gentry series by Laurell K. Hamilton.

Product Description

You may know me best as Meredith Nic Essus, princess of faerie. Or perhaps as Merry Gentry, Los Angeles private eye. In the fey and mortal realms alike, my life is the stuff of royal intrigue and celebrity drama. Among my own, I have confronted horrendous enemies, endured my noble kin’s treachery and malevolence, and honored my duty to conceive a royal heir—all for the right to claim the throne. But I turned my back on court and crown, choosing exile in the human world—and in the arms of my beloved Frost and Darkness.

While I may have rejected the monarchy, I cannot abandon my people. Someone is killing the fey, which has left the LAPD baffled and my guardsmen and me deeply disturbed. My kind are not easily captured or killed. At least not by mortals. I must get to the bottom of these horrendous murders, even if that means going up against Gilda, the Fairy Godmother, my rival for fey loyalties in Los Angeles.

But even stranger things are happening. Mortals I once healed with magic are suddenly performing miracles, a shocking phenomenon wreaking havoc on human/faerie relations. Though I am innocent, dark suspicions of banned magical activities swirl around me.

I thought I’d left the blood and politics behind in my own turbulent realm. I had dreamed of an idyllic life in sunny L.A. with my beloved ones beside me. But it becomes time to wake up and realize that evil knows no borders, and that nobody lives forever—even if they’re magical.

Hamilton is the New York Times bestselling author of the Meredith Gentry novels: A Kiss of Shadows, A Caress of Twilight, Seduced by Moonlight, A Stroke of Midnight, Mistral's Kiss, A Lick of Frost, and Divine Misdemeanors, as well as seventeen acclaimed Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, novels. She lives in St. Louis, Missouri.

Home in Time for Christmas

I've just finished reading "Home in Time for Christmas" by Heather Graham.

Product Description

Centuries ago, by a scaffold in Manhattan, rose petals drifted gently to the ground…

…like snow on a wintry Massachusetts night. Melody Tarleton is driving home for Christmas when a man—clad in Revolutionary War-era costume—appears out of nowhere, right in the path of her car. Shaken, she takes in the injured stranger, listening with concern to Jake Mallory's fantastic claim that he's a Patriot soldier, sentenced to death by British authorities. The last thing he remembers is the tug of the noose.

Safe at her parents' house, Melody concocts a story to explain the handsome holiday guest with the courtly manners, strange clothes and nasty bump on the head. Mark, her close friend who wishes he were more, is skeptical and her family is fascinated—though not half so fascinated as Melody herself. Jake is passionate, charming and utterly unlike anyone she's ever met. Can he really be who he claims? And can a man from the distant past be the future she truly longs for?

With the aid of enchanted petals, ancient potions and the peculiar magic of the season, Melody and Jake embark on an unimaginable Christmas adventure—and discover a love that transcends time.

Tracy Fabre Guest Post

From the back cover of Reasons: Delphi Brent, seriously injured in a hit-and-run accident as a teenager, is ready to spend the summer with old family friends when her parents make a distressing confession: the driver of the car that nearly killed her was one of the three sons of the Laughlin family she's about to visit. They urge her to stay home and let the past be, but she resolves to go out West anyway to learn the truth about what happened the night she was struck and one of the Laughlin sons died. However, in reconnecting with the Laughlins, who operate a sprawling ranch in Colorado, Delphi learns a lot not only about brothers and families, but also about the reasons people keep secrets, and what to do with the truth once it's uncovered. She also falls in love with one of the Laughlin brothers, which wasn't part of the plan at all.

I am so excited to have Tracy Fabre here answering some Q/A in a here at Razlover's Book Blog.

Thanks Renee Giroux from Stimulating Conversations for setting up this Q/A.

About Tracy

Vaguely-worded statements about "me"...

I consider myself a resident of the "mid-South", which is defined as everything from Oklahoma to upper Alabama. I've lived in various southern states and feel a pretty strong connection to Alabama, which doesn't claim me but hasn't figured out how to stop me from coming around.

In fact, three of my other (also unpublished) novels are set on the eastern shore of Mobile Bay (a series of mysteries) and I hope you'll see them in print someday.

I really am a "closet writer," but you can find me posting bits of fluff on Gather.com (they can't figure out how to keep me from coming around, either).

Steadily writing for my own entertainment--because I just haven't been able to stop--for the last eight years, I am glad to finally get into print so I can find out whether anyone else has any interest in what I've been doing "in the privacy of my own home" all this time.

To find out more about Reasons or any book written by Tracy please check her website:

http://www.tracyfabre.com/

Please take it away, Tracy!

1. Are your characters based on any real people?

Nope -- I decided a long time ago to avoid at all costs using the characteristics of anyone I know (with one exception, in one of my unpublished novels). I didn't think I could face up to cries of outrage! However, I'll throw in little things for the amusement of those who know me, such as the maiden name of a friend, or using my uncles' names as examples of a teacher's 'bad kids.'

2. Why does Tam act that way toward Delphi?

Oh, to be in love, to think you're a fool, to question yourself as well as whether or not you even have a chance. People behave weirdly when they're crazy about those who they're not entirely sure feel the same way.

3. Why are Bobby and Noreen together?

It's something which becomes clear as the novel unfolds, but they're two people who've lived in a small town for a long time and think marriage will be beneficial to them in ways which may not involve love.

4. If you weren't a writer what would you be?

A lump. But I'd be a high-quality lump.

5. What are some of your favorite authors?

My favorite romance writer is the late (I assume) Jane Donnelly, who wrote marvelous stories about people who actually got to know each other before jumping into bed. I've also loved Donald Westlake's humor/mystery novels, the humorist Lewis Grizzard and also Garrison Keillor. There's more, of course!

6. What are your hobbies?

Nothing exciting, but I do like taking day trips with a semi-insane friend who will drive us all over the place along back roads, dirt roads, and the memory of roads, while I cling to the map and my faint hopes of getting home alive.

7. What's your typical day like?

Putting off going to work, putting it off longer, eventually going to work, doing the best I can despite how much I'd rather not be at work, and then going home to hone my neglected lump skills. (Seriously, I have a "real" job, and the two places I spend the most time are there and here at the PC.)

8. What do you have coming next?

In March, the release of my third novel, Sending Rupert Home, in which Leanne and Noah have to help the charming, irrepressible and late Professor Rupert Arbery "cross over" by completing an undone task he'd set for himself prior to his death.

Tracy will be visiting and answering any questions you might have so please participate, thanks!

Thanks for answering my Q/A on my Blog, Tracy I greatly appreciate it!

Royal's Bride

I've just finished reading "Royal's Bride" the 1st book in her Bride trilogy by Kat Martin.

Product Description

Though he is a tilted nobleman, Royal Dewar is singularly unlucky…forced to choose between his soul mate and his salvation.

After years abroad, Royal has returned to Bransford Castle to find his father dying and the family treasury nearly empty. Then the old duke wrests a final promise from his guilt-ridden son: that Royal will marry heiress Jocelyn Caulfield and restore the estate to its former glory. However, it is not his fiancée who quickens Royal's pulse, but rather her beautiful cousin Lily Moran.

Penniless Lily knows that nothing can come of their undeniable attraction—but there is a way she can help Royal. Enlisting some questionable characters from her past, Lily concocts an elaborate ruse to recover some of the Bransford fortune from a notorious confidence artist. As the dangerous scheme unfolds, Lily and Royal are thrown together in pursuit of the very thing—money—that keeps them apart….

My Review:

I usually don't read historicals but I enjoy reading books by Kat Martin.

Storyline: I really love the storyline because it's quite real and everyone was convincing and believable with acting.

Characters: All of the characters are quite well written especially Royal, Lily, Jocelyn, Christopher and the rest of Royal's friends.

Romance: I really enjoyed reading the romance between Royal and Lily and Christopher and Jocelyn because it was steamy and hot!  You can practically feel the heat off the pages.

Lee Moylan Guest Post

I am so excited to have Lee Moylan here to talk about her amazing book "Once Upon a Nightmare" in a guest post here at Razlover's Book Blog.

Once Upon a Nightmare

Lee Moylan is a fiction writer with a BS degree in Biochemistry from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She lives outside of Chicago in the Northwest suburbs with her three children.

Besides a fascination with biology and chemistry, she has a passion for the art of forensics. She has studied many books on the subject as well as those on serial killers. Instead of pursuing a career in forensic chemistry, she decided to raise a family and turn her intellectual and creative talents to the writing of haunting fiction.

Her desire to comprehend the almost incomprehensible has driven her to create a frighteningly believable tale that explores the depths a deranged mind can go. The murderer of Once Upon a Nightmare combines elements of actual criminals.

She has completed her second novel, Fatal Charade, and is currently working on her third.

Please take it away, Lee!

Once Upon a Nightmare is a dark tale about two women that share a kind of psychic bond and the serial killer who has targeted them. The killer in my story is quite sadistic and his deeds, beyond disturbing. People may wonder where a character as twisted and evil as mine comes from. The answer is research – lots and lots of research.

For over twenty years I have read books on serial killers, murderers and sociopaths. Besides sleepless nights and heart-pounding nightmares, these true stories have guided my creation of a character that makes Hannibal Lechter look like a gentleman. But the killer had to be despicable – the acts of cruelty, beyond disturbing. That is who they are. That is what they do. Their crimes are committed without conscience, without guilt, without empathy. And they are real.

So I attempted to take my readers some place dark, some place cold, some place twisted – into the mind of a killer. The character in Once Upon a Nightmare is a combination of three real serial killers. The murder scenes are quite graphic and gruesome. They leave nothing to the imagination. But I believe they are necessary to experience the true evil these people possess.

When I wrote this story, I wanted the reader to feel those scenes. To be put in the shoes of the victim no matter how uncomfortable it made them. I wanted them to go some place they don’t normally go. And come out more wise. I hope my readers leave with more than just icy chills!

Happy Reading…

Once Upon a Nightmare

On the night of October thirteenth, the Hunter's Moon descended upon the quiet town of White Chapel. As Sara Bishop drifted off to sleep under its soft illumination, the full moon seemed to have brought with it something far more sinister than a warm glow.

At once, the nightmare started. But this wasn't any ordinary nightmare… This one seemed real ─ as if she could smell it, feel it, taste it. It was one of those dreams ─ one that awakened her witch-like sense ─ a harbinger of heartbreak and now, horror.

Together with Rebecca Parker, the only other person who understood her gift, someone who had experienced her own strange senses, Sara hoped to come to terms with this ominous nightmare. But her closest friend and next door neighbor was no where to be found ─ not since the night of October thirteenth.

And so it begins. With little help from her skeptical husband or local police, Sara finds herself virtually alone as her grisly dreams crawl from the darkness to become a sick and twisted reality ─ a reality where she has become the ultimate desire of a sadistic serial killer.

As images of death, phantoms and shadows surround Sara, she needs to listen to the whispers in her mind, use her gift to unmask those around her, for one of them is the man from her nightmare. And he sees her when she's sleeping… He knows when she's awake.

When the next full moon descends upon White Chapel, he will reveal himself to her. And under its silvery glow, a new nightmare will be born. Will Sara Bishop have to experience death itself to stop this killer? Or will her nightmare never end?

If you have any questions Lee would be happy to answer them, thanks!

Dino Vicelli: Private Eye in a World of Evils (Paperback)

I've just finished reading "Dino Vicelli - Private Eye in a World of Evils" by Lori Weiner.

Product Description

This story transports the reader to an alternate-reality version of New York City, in which talking dogs interact regularly with humans. The hero, Dino Vicelli, is a private investigator who just happens to be a sharply dressed Italian greyhound with a great fondness for cigars. He takes on what initially appears to be a routine missing person case but soon finds himself in the midst of a sinister plot that involves kidnapping, murder, and bizarre scientific experiments aimed at controlling the world. As he investigates this strange case, Dino repeatedly encounters mortal danger, while also finding romance with a beautiful blonde Afghan dog.

With its unusual twists on the traditional detective story genre, this book blends elements of humor, suspense, and fantasy into a truly unique and entertaining tale.

About the Author

Lori Weiner was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and has lived for twenty years in Rancho Mirage, California. She is married to Martin Weiner and has one daughter, Kandice. She has a special interest in show dogs and was inspired to write this book by her own Italian greyhound, Dino, whom she describes as ''funny, inquisitive, very nosy, and very smart.''

Gena Showalter sold her first book at the age of 27 and now, four years later, is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of thirteen books, with eleven more on the way in a thrilling blend of genres: breathtaking paranormal and contemporary romances, cutting edge young adult novels, and stunning urban fantasy.

Her novels have appeared in Cosmopolitan Magazine, MTV, Seventeen Magazine, and have been translated in French, Italian and Korean. The critics have called her books "sizzling page-turners" and "utterly spellbinding stories", while Showalter herself has been called a star on the rise?.
